Active Transportation Studies and Efforts by UTA & Partners
Active Transportation to Transit Plan (AT3P) (2023)
The AT3P is all about helping UTA riders experience greater quality, convenience, comfort, safety, and sense of dignity when using active transportation to access transit. By elevating the importance of active transportation within UTA, establishing a method for identifying system-wide gaps, and developing select pilot project recommendations, the AT3P helps improve our riders’ access to transit service.
Bike Utah Study
The Utah Active Transportation Benefits Study was completed in 2017. The study allows planners, communities, and businesses to assess upcoming programs and projects and better understand how they will improve access to bicycling and walking for transportation and recreation. TIGER Projects
In July 2016, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) awarded the Utah Transit Authority a $20 million grant that will be used, along with matching funds, to build hundreds of active transportation projects connecting to the regional rail system. UDOT-Led Studies
Risk Assessment of Non-Motorized Access to Rail Transit Stations
UTA aided the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) in this study, which examines what roadblocks and incidents riders experienced while trying to use transit services and offers recommendations to improve safety and make transit services easier to access. Increasing Ridership by Integrating Micromobility Services
UTA collaborated with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) on this study examining how micromobility services, such as e-scooters, help people access transit services. Click here to read the full study from UDOT.

Using Bike Racks on Buses and Trains
It is very easy to use the bike racks on UTA! Hundreds of people take their bikes on the UTA system every day. All buses are equipped with bike racks, and we have racks on many of our train cars as well. On TRAX and FrontRunner, there are several ways to secure your bike. Train cars equipped with bike racks have a bicycle icon near the door of the cars with bike racks. Watch this video to learn more.
UTA Active Transportation Partners
GREENbike
UTA is a proud partner of GREENbike, Salt Lake City’s non-profit bike share program. When you get to downtown Salt Lake City or Ogden, look for a GREENbike bike share station. Bikes can be rented by the hour or all day and are a great way to get around town! Many GREENbike stations are located near UTA stops, including Salt Lake Central and Ogden Central Stations. BikeLink E-Lockers
UTA is proud to partner with BikeLink which offers individual electronic bike lockers. All you need to do is grab a BikeLink card, load it, then use the card to park your bike – it’s as simple as that! To learn more, click here.
